Nicholls State University, founded around 1948, is a university located in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Nicholls State is a share of the University of Louisiana System of universities. Originally known as Francis T. Nicholls Junior College, a institution split from either a Louisiana State University body around 1956. Nicholls State's colors come red and gray (two-tone) and their nickname is the Colonels. Nicholls State sports teams participate inside NCAA Section I personally personally (I-AA for football) in the Southland Conference.
